Frequently Asked Questions/ Contact

Do I need a referral to see a Psychologist?

No. Clients may self-refer without seeing a medical practitioner. However consulting with your Doctor (GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician for child referrals) is recommended for holistic care and may enable access to Medicare rebates.

Clients may also be referred via Work Cover, Dept. Veteran Affairs, insurance companies and Employee Assistance Programs.

How much time do I need?

Sessions last for 50 minutes. The number of sessions required for effective treatment depends on a range of variables.  However, on average people usually attend between

8-12 sessions.

How much does it cost to see a Psychologist?

A fundamental underpinning of the clinic is to make psychological services accessible. For this reason there is a fee range to suit most peoples’ circumstances. Please ask about current fees upon contacting the clinic.

Are sessions rebated under Medicare?

A Mental Health Care Plan can be arranged by a client’s GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist, if this is deemed appropriate by their treating Doctor.  To read more about the Medicare rebate for mental health services provided by psychologists go to https://www.psychology.org.au/medicare/fact_sheet . Current rebates under a Mental Health Care Plan are $136.35 per 50-minute session for up to 10 sessions within a 12 month period.  All fees are to be paid at the time of consultation, with Medicare rebates usually returned to the client’s account within one to three days of the session.

Can I claim a rebate under my private health?

Private health insurance may cover psychological services.  Clients are encouraged to contact their fund directly regarding possible rebates.  Clients must choose between accessing a Medicare rebate or their private health cover.

Is my information kept confidential?

All information collected is stored securely, either electronically or on paper files in a locked cabinet, to which only your Psychologist and authorised staff have access. Your services at the clinic are confidential. The clinic would not give your personal information to anyone else, except in a few rare situations that you need to know about:

1.    If you have authorised your Psychologist to provide information to a third party (e.g., if               your GP has referred you, with your child’s school teacher, an insurer etc.),

2.    If it were required by law that the clinic disclose information,

3.    If not disclosing the information might place you or another person at risk.
